Tranferring to U of M from VT

I'm currently a freshman at Virginia tech and I've always wanted to go to University of Michigan since I was a wee-child, and I'm not happy here in blacksburg(although its not terrible). The short and sweet of it is that I've always seen myself in Ann Arbor.

I applied last year at an incoming freshman and was wait listed, so I plan to apply as a transfer next year. I'm currently a Mathematics major, and i WAS going to change my major to engineering, but now that I've decided to transfer next year, is it worth switching my major? Should I just continue to take all the normal math courses that I'm taking now and don't worry about doing Engineering for now? or does it look better that I'd be transferring from VT's Engineering program.

My projected GPA for the semester is a 3.8 or so. Am I probably a pretty safe bet to get in assuming I write good essays? Like I said before, I've ALWAYS seen myself as a Wolverine, and I've never been able to shake it.

Any Suggestions on how to improve my application? I'm just finishing pledging a fraternity down here that has a good reputation up at U of Mich too, and hopefully those extracurricular activities will support my app? (in HS my biggest weakness was extracurriculars)

I don't know a whole lot about transfer stats, but you've got a solid GPA from a decent school, and if you write good essays you probably have a shot. Getting into the CoE will probably be tougher than LS&A but that's the reality.

What fraternity are you in by the way?

Edit: About classes, you should probably go to the CoE transfer website and see what they say about what credits you need. Michigan Engineering | Home

thanks Gamefreak, I appreciate the advice. The more I look into U of M, the more I seem to like the idea of transferring. I'm now leaning towards studying Actuarial Science because I hear they have a great program, and it's definitely a subject that interests me...but I"m going to look into Engineering too.

I'm pledging FIJI - they're newer on the U of M campus I believe, but they've been at VT for roughly 30 years.

Ohh, and my grades for the semester came in and I've got a 3.87, and 28 credits to my name going into this 2nd semester (because I had some AP credit). Is LS&A the easiest school to get into at Michigan in your opinion? I'll do anything i can just to get INTO the school, no matter what college that means.

Also, would it be stupid to submit 1 of my essays I used last year for my transfer application since the prompt is the same, or would they think I'm lazy and it'd look bad for my app?

In terms of applying out of high school, LS&A is easier to get into than the CoE. Transferring, I'd assume the same, but could be wrong.

As far as FIJI, they definitely have a presence on campus
