Can't figure

A few weeks ago, a number of kids in my son's class were getting acceptances to Michigan. But over the past week a surprising number of students ~ who still applied before Oct 31st and who have higher stats, are getting deferrals. Some of them are truly floored by the results. What's up? Did Michigan suddenly decide they admitted too many kids and need to slow down? Did they giving super advantage to extra early applications?

Puzzled.

Not sure if you live in the Garden State, but we have had the same situation here...Higher stats, but deferrals....You may be right based on geography...It's possible that if a certain region had too many early acceptances, they are deferring everyone else...Definitely makes sense...But congratulations to you!!! What region of the country?

Actually this was my son. We live in NY (L.I.) One of his best friends with higher stats was deferred a couple of days ago, which made my son quite discouraged. But he got in anyway.

So now I'll have to re-evaluate my prior hypothesis. Perhaps they deferred applicants who they think only chose Michigan as a second choice or saftey or won't enroll. Or perhaps it was the essays. Who knows?

Either way, my son couldn't be happier. I think he's on line in his room now looking for a link to the bookstore, to order a cap and tee shirt....

sweatshirt, underwear, towels, mug, tie for his old man. Fuzzy slippers for his mother....
