In-state merit based aid?

I was told you recieve in-state merit based aid if you score over 31 on the ACT. Shockingly, I got a 32 on the April one and was wondering if there is any truth to this. If not, what are the qualifications?

Dear god no. I wouldn't expect in-state merit aid from the university unless you have a 35+ ACT, 4.0 GPA, and some other pretty impressive qualifications.

Is this what you're thinking of? SFA - Merit Award

Dilsky is actually spot on. Yes, a very small percentage of students get merit scholraships with ACT scores of 30 or 32, but it isn't common. Most students who get merit scholraships have ACT scores over 33.

You will have a decent shot at the one-time $1500 Regents Scholarship...most people wouldn't consider that very much, and probably far less than what you would expect as "merit aid" when you asked this question.

after reading this thread, I inquired w/ FA since D got 32 on ACT. This is what I was told is the criteria. Regents is for MI students. It is based on admissions on a rolling basis, all the Regent awards were given out by Dec (apply early). You must have a UM GPA (unweighted) of at least 3.9 and one of the following: 33 ACT or 30 ACT & be in top 1% of your class. Bummer for D--applied early, gpa was there, 32 on ACT but in 2% of her class. Sure it's not the big bucks but every dollar helps.
