Do you need a MBA if you graduated from Ross with a BBA?

Hey guys,

I was thinking, if you graduate from Ross (as an undergrad), is it worth while pursuing a masters? Doesn't a BBA from Ross make it like an MBA?

Um, no? While Ross is a great school, I still think you will need an MBA. May be not in terms of skills, but in terms of having that thing on your resume that boosts your career. Even kids from Wharton need MBAs.

Whether or not you need an MBA is dependent on your career path, not your undergraduate degree.

The answer is "no."

Do well in your first job and see what it brings you. MBA schools are mostly filters for bright people - if one gets in and does well at Ross - that filtering process has already taken place.

Don't forget the cost of a top 10 MBA school - it is outrageous.

My son graduated from Ross in 2000. He planned to work a few years and go for an MBA. He worked in Michigan in M&A for a couple years, moved to Chicago and was quickly promoted to the Associate level where MBAs usually start. He is now working in private equity and doing so well that quitting and going back to school doesn't make much sense.

Yes, it certainly differs on a case to case basis.
