I understand how it is when you're a new student and want to be on top of things, but like tetra said, later it becomes no big deal. People miss class for all sorts of reasons: interviews (especially 2nd rounds), early vacations, extended vacations, sleeping in (whether it's by mistake or by laziness), and yes, even when it's snowing out and I really don't want to go.

For those attendance-based discussions, an explanation via e-mail has generally been excusable in my experience.

I haven't heard of many people taking the entire week off, but I'd guess that most people not from the area take off Wednesday.
