I don't think it is that straight forward. One cannot assume that a student is better than another simply by looking at scores. I scored well over 1500 (out of 1600) on my SAT. My sisters barely broke the 1000 mark. It is clear and undisputed in my family that my sisters are better students. There are many variables to consider. Family background, holding a full time job to help with the bills, coming from an underprvileged socio-economic background, etc... And there are many hooks that we may not see. Such as writing a great essay, excellent teacher recs, a special gift (athletic, artistic etc...). I learned long ago never to compare myself to anybody. ANYBODY. It is impossible to compare oneself to another. There are simply too many variables to consider. Now, don't get me wrong. I am sure Michigan admissions commits hundreds of brain farts each year. But out of 30,000 applicantions, that's to be expected.

Honestly, the only one I would agree with that you stated is socio-economic privilege along with URM, recruited athlete, and a few very rare situations other then that if someone has far superior stats to a lesser student and the lesser student gets in over the superior student, in my mind the lesser student either got really lucky, has inside connections, or bought their way into Michigan.

I think they do one of the following:

1) Release results weekly
or
2) Release results after x amount of applications have been reviewed

From what I know, if you submitted ur apps in early october or even in september, you should be getting ur results soon (some people have already heard from them actually). If you submitted ur app around mid-Oct, expect the results to come out in 2-3 more weeks.

^Last year, if early appliers were borderline candidates, many didn't hear until December 21st......and many were deferred....even if they applied in late September or early October.
