I personally was not deferred. I got an acceptance in the next contact htat I got from the U after I applied. (I applied in mid-October and was accepted by mid-December.)

However, I do know quite a few that were deferred over the past few years. Many did get in eventually, but I saw that they weren't thrilled about being deferred and then being asked to come to campus early for sumemr courses to catch up I guess. That turned some of them away from the school. Some also got waitlisted. Their stats were usually around a 3.5 or 3.6 GPA and an ACT of anything below a 26.

My high school (which is a feeder to UM) had 75% of their applicants deferred. 50% of those deferred applicants were later accepted.

The only people who didn't get deferred were students well qualified for UM (usually, in the top 25 percentile in test scores, GPA, etc.)
