So I have a question... when I scheduled my audition for March 27th I didn't realize that the school did rolling admission. Now that I've figured that out I'm wondering if I should even bother driving ten hours to Michigan and missing two days of school, because I feel like auditioning this late basically gives me no chance of getting in. Is it worth it?

Basically, your chances are as good now as they were before - they haven't filled the girls spots and won't until after the last audition. The old cliche holds true - if they want you, they want you. So if it's a top choice for you, I'd say go for it!

2 more girls were accepted. One of them was notified today and had first been deferred, I do not know when the other was notified. 7 girls and 7 boys. They are looking to accept 26 and yield around 20, so definitely still audition. There are many spots left. You are not at a disadvantage

Good luck to everyone waiting to hear from UM! I am curious, NMT, about the 26 number? Seems like you know your stuff, so am just wondering! Did someone from UM say that at the auditions? They usually only accept one or two over their target of 20, if that. If someone turns down the offer then they go to the waitlist. This is how they have done it in recent years anyway. Coach C might know more of the scoop about the numbers for this year. For my D's sophomore class of 19 they accepted 20, two acceptees went elsewhere and so one was then accepted from the waitlist.

But yes, ballerinabeyler, you should still audition! They will not complete the class and make all acceptances until they have seen everyone.

I'm curious too NMT . If anything, I'd imagine Michigan will make less outright offers this year as in comparison to years past. Their current freshman class is 24 (only one accepted student did not choose to attend) which is more than their target.

And I agree with MTMama, if you have a scheduled audition next weekend, go for it!!!

ballerinabeyler, I agree that you should definitely go to your audition.

I'm a freshman MT and we have 23 in my class plus 1 transfer who will graduate with the sophomores, so the yield was 24 total out of 25 offers (as far as anyone here knows - this is NOT a confirmed number from admissions, but the department students only know of one accepted student who didn't matriculate). By this time last year we had around 18 or 20 accepted already and according to NMT there's only been 14 accepted so far (I'm also curious as to how you know all this), so that combined with the high yield last year would lead me to believe that they are waiting longer to finalize the class. This last audition date is also one of the smallest of the year, so there's a big advantage in that you'll get more attention. Plus, I feel like if I was in your position and didn't go to the audition I would always wonder "what if?" At least this way you have a shot at getting accepted - if you don't audition I can guarantee you won't get in.

Best of luck!

Mr. Wagner, when asked at the info session before the audition, said they plan to offer around 24-26 hoping to yield 20-22. He said he likes to have around 80 total in the department. If you add current junior, Soph, and Fresh, class numbers, you are left with around 20-22 for this year if he wants around 80 total. Last year was a large class but the year before was small (I think around 18). It really isn't inside info at all...he simply announced it at the info session when asked. The other numbers come from my daughter knowing several who were accepted and from looking at the UMIch MT class of 2013 on facebook. These kids have a very good communication network and it doesn't take long for word to spread. Once again, the numbers we referred to are only what we know of. There certainly could be more. Since last post, we learned of 2 more talented and lucky girls.

Slots seem to be filling in a painfully slow manner. I just continue to hope for the best!
Good luck to everyone!

I guess Facebook is a good source - but in past years there have always been one or two accepted kids who don't post on there - so not sure that it is the most reliable way to keep up with acceptances. And the current sophomore class was 19, as I posted above - it is now up to 20 with the addition of a transfer this year. With last year's big class of 24, I would be surprised if they accepted 26 this year - but we will see soon enough. Best wishes to those waiting to hear!

Just to clarify...I recall him saying they would probably make 24-26 offers to yield 20-22. He never said he wanted a class of 26. He also never mentioned how many of those offers might be from a waitlist. As for facebook, nothing is exact of course. Just trying to share the ones that we know of. Anyone looking for 100% accurate info should probably log off CC and just wait for the mail. My nervous energy keeps me here while we wait. Everything on here should be taken for what it is...limited information from unknown sources. I wouldn't make any decisions based on this forum although it is somewhat helpful.

Check Wolverine Access. Some people have received a waitlist notification on the website.
