HOWEVER, I felt after last year's auditions that the early audition was heavy on high talent (and they need to keep space open until the end of auditions, just in case - why so many end up 'pending.") Just a feeling, but D did 4 summer MT programs (Stagedoor times 3 and CMU) while in HS and lots of the most talented kids from those were at the early audition. So, like in American Idol auditions, would you go to NY or LA to audition, where it is heavy on talent, or audition in Alabama (no slam to Alabama, here, just using it a an example...) In hind sight, I believe a later audition would have been better for my D. You would have several other auditions under your belt for practice and for not being so nervous, or the option to decide to change you repertoire, etc. based on other auditions. Some school has to be first, however, so do look at those offering early auditions as it can get hard to put them all on a calendar and make it work. You need a master spread sheet and someone willing to help you map it all out, yes, I do not recommend doing the auditon planning/sign ups on your own as it can involves travel, air fares, hotels, rental cars, etc. This is an easy thing to make mistakes on, so you can do it by yourself, but at least have someone looking over your shoulder!! Screwing up a date or a way to sign up for an audition, and they are all different, can be devastating. I saw a boy at Elon last year AT THE AUDITION who got in early academically and thought it meant he got into the MT program as it was his stated major. He did not apply anywhere else. So sad.
