| I looked online today at my financial aid package. I can't believe it. Our EFC is between $6,000 and $7,000. I got $3,000 in merit scholarships, $2,700 work study, and the rest in LOANS. That's almost $15,500 in loans. I am well below average in terms of EFC and well above average for the applicant pool (32 ACT, 4.0 uw) but get less than average in merit scholarships, less in need-based grants and scholarships, and more in loans than the average student. I am so ****ed right now. I hope the rest of my schools come through with financial aid. Sorry for the rant. |

| Golfer... Just curious, were you accepted into the Honors Program? My son had similar stats, was accepted into Carlson and accepted into U Honors and received similar finan aid ($2000/year scholarship and $2700 work study). Our EFC was around $3900 so he also received around $1700 in federal grants. He is SO disappointed. We expected better scholarship money. Looks like he may be going to Madison. |

| it is like the exact opposite for me... they were really really generous... they are offering me just over $26,000 in scholarships and grants so no loans or work study. i think that they just threw money at the biggest numbers paired with the lowest incomes. hopefully they redistribute the aid money so some of you guys get more. i got into another school that i like a lot more, but my mom won't let me withdraw my admission to the U yet... i hope the best for you guys! |

| No, I was not accepted into the honors program, although I was expecting to be. I think part of my problem was that I am from South Dakota so I get reciprocity. While reciprocity is usually a good thing, I think it excluded me from some of the bigger scholarships. Minkspwn, can I assume you are out of state or at least not falling under reciprocity? And if you don't mind me asking, what was your EFC?
It doesn't really matter at this point. Minnesota was more of my safety (although apparently not a financial safety). Right now, it's looking like I will be going to a private with almost a $50,000 sticker price for $3,000 less per year in loans. Only $12,000 (or less) instead of $15,000. Yeah, right, "only." |

| I am in state - I have lived within 20 miles of the U my entire life... The college I applied to is CLA. My EFC on the FAFSA was about $3,500, but the U bumped it up to $3,900 for their calculations or something.
The breakdown of scholarships was: $5,000 from the Presidential scholarship, $5,000 from the Bentson Family scholarship, $6,500 from the Minnesota Gold scholarship, $4,000 from a CLA Honors scholarship, $1,081 from the Federal Pell Grant, and $4,598 from a Minnesota State Grant. I also got a freshman study abroad scholarship for $1,000.
So yeah... I dunno. They would be paying me ~$7,000 a year to attend. This happened to someone else from my school last year I think. They still give you need based aid on top of any merit scholarships. |

| I was accepted in early October. I don't remember when I heard back from honors... I think it was mid-December at the latest. |
