Definitely the Carolina Inn. It's the first hotel you think of when you think of UNC and Chapel Hill....plus it's very, very nice!

Carolina Inn is definitely the nicest and most well known, but the Franklin Hotel on Franklin Street, about a block from Granville Towers, is nice too. Also The Sienna, located on the opposite end of Franklin is luxurious. It is not close enough to campus to walk however. There are several lower priced but good hotels on 501 if you want something a bit less expensive.

If your student is on south campus and you have a car - I would also recommend ALOFT.

The Sheraton Chapel Hill is really nice, it's where my family stays every time the come to visit. BUT it's not as close to campus as it seems, you have like a 10 min. drive to get there. I think they also have a shuttle service though. The Carolina Inn is literally on campus, but the money you save staying at the Sheraton makes it worth it.
Also... I highly recommend staying on the club level, the rooms are more spacious, you get free food, and more amenities than regular rooms

We stayed at the Carolina Inn. Booked through Priceline - did the name your price for 4 star and offered half of what the price was listed for the regular Priceline price. The room was nice but it was obvious from the remark the clerk had that they don't really like Priceline. Unfortunately, I can't remember the exact remark but S and I just kinda of looked at each other and went on.
