Hey guys!
So I'm just really confused as to what I'm paying for right now. I'm enrolled to attend chapel hill this fall. I have an outstanding fee on my carolina account, but that amount is not the same as the tuition payment plan that my mom has been paying. Are these separate payments that I have to be making? Because I thought the payment plan included my tuition, but now that I've calculated it, the price is way too low to be the tuition O.o So I'm just so lost.

Sometimes they add different things on at different times. I remember last year before my freshman year, they added in the meal plan and housing and tuition all on at different times. Look for the details of the payment and it should tell you what the charge is for.

If you go to your ConnectCarolina Student Center page and click on the link under "Finances" called: Pay Bills/Manage Student Finances, you can see a break-down of the various charges made to your account for the semester. Also, if you have not yet registered for all of your courses, it will not reflect on your current bill. So if you are wait-listing a course (or haven't yet enrolled all of your planned hours), it will be significantly lower. Online courses are also billed separately to your account, so keep an eye out for those entries as well.

For your reference, you can check these documents and verify roughly how much you will owe (keep in mind that the mandatory health insurance fee is greater than originally anticipated):

The bill is is a moving target. Fees and tuition will be added as you get closer to the first day of class including things like your meal plan. If you are covered under your parent's medical insurance plan, you may apply for a waiver and that fee and it will be removed. First make sure, your parent's insurance covers you at UNC. Make sure you understand that UNC hospital does not accept certain insurance plans such as Aetna, etc. You can still get simple walk in care at the student clinic, which is covered under the student health fee. You can't waive out of that one but it is a lot lower and pretty convenient if you come down with something simple and need antibiotics.

If you parents are using a payment plan, such as Tuition Management System, the amount due will not reflect the plan. The amount paid is credited on a monthly basis around the 15th of the month and through October for the fall semester. Payments made in November and December will count towards the Spring semester. I usually make my calculation and pay UNC net of the payment plan. I also make sure that they are aware I have the payment plan. I don't know if UNC has their own payment plan. It has never been an option for us.

Hope this helps. It is very confusing the first year and it is difficult to talk to someone in the cashier office. I found that they do answer emails.
