Does anyone know of someone who received this letter in a previous year and didn't get in?

I thought his essays were great but who knows. I'm sure his recs were wonderful. He's a laid back non competitive kid who's always laughing.

My son got a Likely Letter today (out of state - Florida). These letters are not guarantees of admission, but are typically followed by formal offers of admission later. It's still important to maintain good grades senior year (Iheard one Ivy rejected 3 in 2006 who had received these letters). They clearly are a form of marketing to desirable candidates. They aren't used by all schools.

Unless you seriously screw up, Shannon, like completely dropping the ball on grades and start failing classes, or something along those lines, it is pretty much a guarantee.

So I got a letter today... it's good to hear that what I thought was true (that it was a likely letter and that I'm all but actually accepted). I'm oos, by the way.

Congratulations all who received them. Johnson do you mind sharing your stats, location, etc. Also has anyone gotten a confirmation email or just through snail mail? TIA

sure-

location- New Orleans, LA
pretty good private school.
ACT- 33 (29e, 33r, 36s, 25m, 9essay)

AP's- can't really mention since my school only offers 2 and Katrina year added one in from another school (will have 4 by the end of this year, 4 APUSH, 4 psych self-study, other 2 are bio and calcAB). I've taken all but 1 honors class available (english 9 freshman year).

School doesn't rank (very small class, but tied for 1st off the record).
A bunch of awards, including NMSF; I tutor 5 hours a week, gymnastics for over 12 years, tennis, really good essays (imo; I used my commonapp essay with prompt 8, and I've put my soul into that one), I'm in a program at Tulane, hundreds of hours of community service, that sort of thing.

Ummmm.....wow.....this is depressing.
Instate, 33 ACT, top 5%, 9 APs, cofounder of debate club, 400+ hours of volunteering at the hospital, marching band 4 years, principal trombone of local youth symphony....and I didn't get one.

Of course, it might have to do with the fact that they haven't received/processed my teacher recommendation yet (even though it got sent before all my other stuff, I hope I didn't accidentally send them my commonapp teacher rec or something -.-).
