I got a likely letter today too!

I don't want to share too much info but
2210 SAT, 650-700s on SAT ii's, student body vp, president/leadership in a few clubs, minority, first generation college, will have 11 AP's by graduation, top 3% of class, etc. etc.

good luck to everyone else.

yeah i got one last week. I didn't think much of it at the time but this is good news. I'm really happy!

Stats:

Instate Male
Public High School
1/450
4.0/4.9
SAT 1950
Pres of a few clubs
Had a few jobs
Taken 10 AP Classes

When to NC Governor's School (800 students from the entire state)
*I head that Governor's School has a very high acceptance rate to UNC like 95%...So i guess that’s 760+/- that probably got one.*

I'm guessing that these letters are sent as apps are reviewed as opposed to one batch.

Anyone know?

Mine was dated November 16th. If the other people have the same date, they were sent out at the same time. They may review one stack, send out letters. Then review another stack and send out more letters. I really don't know how the admissions review process works.

Mine was also dated November 16th, the day after I attended an Academic Day at Carolina.

Have all the letters (for EA at this point, I guess) been sent, or will they continue to go out into December? Is there any historical connection between likely letters and invitations to scholarship days? Cloying, what was your experience?

mine was also dated November 16. I doubt they will continue to send them out. like someone else said, it's a psychological thing so sending them out in December would be too late, people would have already finished or begun apps to other schools.

This is the earliest they've sent them out ever. And pushing back the due date for some oos students to the fifteenth, I highly doubt that they had even looked at all of the applications by the sixteenth.

From what I've heard, historically they've been sent out just before christmas.

I don't know if there is generally a connection, but two years ago my D did NOT get a likely letter but DID get an invitation to the scholarship day -- and after the scholarship day was offered a Carolina Scholars award. I have no idea what the criteria are for likely letters, but I don't think anyone should worry that it's a "bad sign" if he or she doesn't get one.

Oh, and a really obnoxious classmate who did get a likely letter (and wouldn't shut up about it) did not get an invitation to the scholarship day.

When do they send out invitations to scholarship day? Before or after the likely letters?

If I recall correctly, the scholarship day invitation arrived in late December. Certainly the dates of things like that may change from year to year.

I got one of those letters too, but I'm out-of-state (yay pennsylvania!) I'm wondering when they send out likely letters do they take where you are from into consideration? Because it's harder for out of state people right?
