Anyone that can add some thoughts of any kind on my situation would be nice.

I'm kinda flipping out

high school-crap

community college right out of high school in Florida (where I'm from) for 2 semesters -equally crappy

community college in NC in 1999 and 2000 for 3 semesters-continuing the string of crap

same community college in NC revisited in summer 2006-fall 2007 for 3 semesters (retaking any grade I previously made at the NC CC below a B) -straight As

got my Associates degree from NC community college with 3.703 gpa (that's including retakes, what my transcript from the CC says)

I know for sure one of my professors sent an awesome letter of rec, 2 more may.

I'm 30 years old and have been married for 1 year this Saturday.

I feel I wrote a very strong essay and have had my CC literature teacher confirm this.

I sent my transcripts and application about 2 weeks ago. How long before my UNC homepage reflects they even got the stuff?

I know they said they would let my know by April 21, but will they decide sooner or do they tell all the applicants the same time around then?

Do I have a good chance? My wife and I are riding on this acceptance, so I would be bummed if I was rejected. I've been working as hard as I can for almost 2 years to get into UNC and said so in my essay.

I've already been accepted to one of my safety schools (UNCG) so I guess all isn't lost. Right?

mikeysoundtrap: At age 30, I doubt that they will be looking at your high school record or your earlier cc record. I suspect they will look carefully at your Associates degree with the 3.7 gpa and the "retakes." Your recommendation letters and essay will count as well. I don't know about notification dates for transfers, though others who transferred in last year can tell you when they heard. At any rate, it sounds like you have a very good chance for acceptance. (And UNC-G would definitely not be a disaster.) Good luck!

I was a freshman at UNC Chapel Hill in the fall of 2002 and graduated in the spring of 2004 -- a week before my forty-first birthday! I was the only non-traditionally aged student in all of my classes. UNC offers some night school classes for working adults but I never took any of them. At thirty you'll be older than other students but it will only be an issue for them if it's an issue for you. Good Luck!

You could always take courses part time at UNC in your major, next year make A's in them and re-apply if nothing else but Carolina will do. This has worked for a number of adults. Think again about UNC-G. It has a much larger adult, nontraditional student population which would give you more choice as to a peer group.

I like UNC-G, but they don't offer a Russian major, only a minor. I'm trying to set myself up for grad school in Russian history. My CC didn't offer Russian and RUSS history grad programs don't consider applicants that don't have 4 years of the language. I'm hoping I can double major in RUSS and history in 3 years at UJNC-CH and that will be enough to impress grad schools. That won't be the case at UNC-G, but the minor will have to do.
