can anyone tell me what the deal with frats at UNC. LIke are the frats known to have a tough rushes, if they are a self-containing community or can anyone go to a frat party, just the basic scoop, etc...

Girls can pretty much go to all the frats. Guys who aren't in them can during rush, which is the beginning of the semester. Only a few have tough rushes, it's pledging that's hard.

Can only speak for the frat my son joined. He enjoyed rush very much--lots of activities--dinners, outings, sports, etc. Pledging was very, very time-consuming. He is glad he joined--he was a transfer and it has helped him meet many more people. Sounds like (just my impression from listening to him talk) that girls are always welcome at the socials, other guys should be a guest of a brother. Of course, during rush all guys are welcome.

Pledging is VERY time consuming. One of my best guy friends is in the process of pledging and I swear I've seen him like twice in the past month. He hasn't had to deal with any real hazing, just some stupid and sometimes "embarrassing" things, but seriously, nothing dangerous or disruptive at all. Apparently they make the pledges clean the house a lot too.

yep i know my brother is in the same scenario. BUt im just wondering like at UNC first off is the rumor true that frats are mainly for rich white southern kids. And secondly do most of the frats just do dumb time consuming stuff or do some do legit awful hazing.
