Late transfer

Anybody know anything about late transfers? I'm a student who decided to transfer after the actual deadline (it was a difficult personal decision for me). I currently go to a top 10 university (also located in North Carolina, you can probably figure it out). I called the admissions office and they said my application would reviewed on a space availability basis. Is anybody in the same boat as me? Just want to know if anyone has experience with this, and if they could share any info. Thanks

Transfer spots probably more numerous than freshman spots.
Be patient.
Be persistent.
Have good stats.

I guess I'll throw in some extra info.

I go to Duke. 3.2 GPA. Two activities I focus on. Dad was a grad student at UNC.

High school wise, I was top 10% (4.5 GPA), 2200 (1430 combined) on the SAT. President of two clubs. I live in Virginia, so I'm an out-of-stater.

It feels weird posting on this site again. Haven't been on here in more than a year.

I don't know how it works with dates, but I think if you were in the regular transfer pool, then you'd have a good shot. I'll be crossing my fingers for you.
