AP exams and CTOPS

I know this was probably answered previously, but here goes .... can my son register for advanced classes prior to receiving the results of his AP exams? He registered for a June CTOPS and the results won't be out yet. Thank you.

Do these classes have prerequisites? (Are we talking Math?) If so, they may require him to wait and get those advanced classes during add/drop during the first weeks of school.

My d did a late CTOPS, so her scores were in when she registered...and therefore, I may be wrong about this. But it seems logical, especially since it isn't that difficult to get most classes during add/drop.

My son was worried that the advanced courses, already registered for by sophs, would be closed in August. Hope this doesn't backfire on him.

Even if he has a problem registering for a class at CTOPS, a lot classes will open up spaces during the drop/add period. One key to success is not getting married to one schedule, but to have some alternate schedules prepared.

tyr is right, classes usually open up during add/drop. And you can always talk to a professor in person and ask to be added. My d has had success with this approach. Also, students usually avoid the 8:00 a.m. sections, so sometimes, those sections stay open.

Helpful hint: During her first two years, my d prepared her ideal fall and spring schedule and then let some of the spring courses serve as her backup should she not get her first choice fall classes. I think she only had to switch a fall and spring class one time. Since the first year or so is primarily core curriculum classes, this is very doable.
