I think you have a preeeetty good chance. I thought you were kind of a bit borderline but being a black male would probably help too. unc lacks blacks and males. hahaha not to be prejudiced or anything, but it's jsut not diverse in those areas.

although I have to say, try not to obsess toooo much about the admissions, but more about what you want to study and what academic programs/majors there are available at schools. of course you want to maek your app outstanding, but for now I think you have built a pretty good prfile/resume and you just need to continue what you are doing with your ECs.

really show your interest in UNC and its academic programs in your essays! it's more about the learning-in-college-part than the getting-in-part. =D

anyways yea I think you hve a pretty good chance

What divinevalley said is completely true. Write about your interest in the school and what kind of internships/research you are willing to do in the future. I talked about my interest in doing research on Carolina Vaccine Institute. I found it very easy to write my essay because it was something that I am curiously engaged.

I would say you are a slight reach, but you definitely have a good shot.

I would agree with danny_125 and divinevalley about the essays, but only to a certain extent. If you are genuinely interested in a certain aspect of Carolina, go ahead and write about it. But if you aren't, don't force yourself to sound interested. The most important thing about the essay is writing about something that you are passionate about, preferably something that doesn't show up somewhere else on your application.

ok. I have started working on the essays already.
btw, I forgot to include in my first post that I would be a first-generation college student. Does that carry any emphasis?

Cool!! I <3 first-gen. college students!
yeah I think that helps you too, at least according to College Search - University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill - UNC - Admission
it's listed, so I think it counts for something!

don't rely completely on it though!

anyways good luck on your app. !!!
