| Will I get caught for Limewire? I have Limewire and want to continue using it on UNC campus. Is there any way I can play with the settings so I don't get caught, like turning off uploads? |

| I'm not sure if you can mess with the settings to avoid getting caught but illegal music downloads are a violation of the honor code and several students were caught last year.
However, UNC does pay for each student to use Ruckus, an online music downloading site, but the only problem is that you cannot upload these files to a portable device like an iPod. You can theoretically get around this restriction by downloading some software that is not too difficult to find on the internet. |

| Many users of Limewire P2P are unaware that it can be used for identity theft. There are many cases of individuals using P2P to look for financial information including credit card numbers, pin codes, student financial aid reports, etc.
Plus do you really want to take the risk of paying $5,000 or more for illegal music downloads if your computer just happens to be one that turns up in the daily search of P2P networks by the RIAA? Students at UNC-Chapel Hill have been cited in the past. |

| I got caught using Ares and they shut off my internet for my laptop for like 4 days until I went to the remedial class. But the people i had this stupid class with used limewire, torrents, etc. so they definitely can catch you using any filesharing program. I suggest not using it or at least be careful.
Theres a ton of people who get caught. they have the "classes" everyday with each class having around 6-11 people in it. |

| can't you edit your setting so that you don't share the music that you download?
i used to do that, but i don't know if they still can detect you if you're downloading music.
also, can't you buy Limewire Pro for $22? That might keep you safe and even prevent viruses from limewire basic. |
