Hating Notre Dame I feel is quite common if you have been rejected. I know I went through it. If you are thinking about transferring at all check out my website, I think it will help you! www.nd.edu/~mnadorff/transfer

Rejected. Too devastated to post all stats. ND was my #1. 32 ACT, 3.95 UW, full IB, varsity captain. Thought I had a good chance in RD. Very sad day.

| Decision: Accepted
Stats: - SAT: 800CR, 740M, 800W
- ACT: 32 (29R, 29W, 35M, 36S), 34 (34R, 34W, 36M, 31S)
- SAT IIs: 800IIC, 800Chem, 680Lit
- GPA: 4.5W, 4.00 UW
- Rank: 1/141
- Other stats:
Subjective:- Essays: Pretty decent.
- Teacher Recs: Excellent. My teachers know me pretty well.
- Counselor Rec: Excellent
- Hook (if any): Well, I have played the bassoon for six years in an extremely competitive student orchestra (I got in after playing for only a year and half). I study under the principal bassoonist of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra (This was very difficult to arrange. She only takes two students). I also play clarinet. I am an Eagle Scout.
- Applied early? No
- State or Country: Columbus, OH
- School Type: Private
- Ethnicity: White
- Gender: Male
- Number of Applicants from School: Probably about two dozen
- Other Factors: National Merit Finalist. National Honor Society. I founded an ultimate Frisbee team at my school (which I presently captain). I have been on the school engineering team for two years (This year we are first in the state and have a shot at a national title). I have been on the school quiz team for two years (varsity). I have taken the most challenging curriculum offered by my school (Every science course, every math course, every level of Latin (including a class at The Ohio State University)). Outside of school, I am in an ultimate Frisbee league. In Boy Scouts, I have been the Senior Patrol Leader for the past few years (Basically, that means that I am in charge of the troop). I was also elected into the Order of the Arrow (Brotherhood dedicated to cheerful service). I am an expert in Linux, I know a little about Unix, and I build and mod computers for people.
ND was my safety school. I have been in Catholic schools for several years and I kind of want an out. However, not being a URM got me denied at Princeton, and not finding out about ISTS or Siemens until a few months ago was probably a big factor in getting waitlisted at Caltech. I also applied to Purdue on the offchance that I might get the Beering, but I didn't, so I am not going to Purdue. It looks like it's ND for me (unless Caltech reconsiders. I hate this region of the US. I want beaches and sunny skies in midwinter. w00t!).
I don't feel too bad about it. This is the same thing that happened to another student at my school who was the best student we ever produced. This kid was on the national math team, played varsity football, was an Eagle Scout, maxed his standardized tests, and had the highest GPA in school history. He got denied everywhere but ND too. Maybe other schools just don't much like us Papists |

To AlmostIrish2006....you list large Catholic High School in South Bend, Indiana...let me guess St. Joe's? In all honesty I don't think one C+ made or broke your application chances. This was a really competitive year, as I'm sure you already know. I would say that from everything irish61876 has said and everything you can read in observer and elsewhere, that going to HC (the South Bend one) is not necessarily a good way to insure being able to transfer into ND. Of course there's a transfer Junior in my dorm who did it....so it can be done.

It can be done but it just seems to be harder, just like Saint Mary's. The thing is that there are just so many transfer applicants from those schools that it is more selective getting in because they want transfers from a diverse group of schools. It is kind of like how it may be easier to get into ND from Wyoming than Indiana. It is just something to consider when choosing a college but if SMC or Holy Cross is the place you want to be, then go there. I just don't recommend them if you are really planning on transferring.
PS, I forget what dorm you are in but is the transfer in question Timmy? If so, I am really good friends with him.

Stats:- SAT: 2220 (760M, 730V, 730W)
- SAT IIs: 760 US History, 690 World History, 660 Math 2
- ACT: 34
- GPA: 97%
- Rank: 17/392
- Other stats: 7 AP's
Subjective:- Essays: Unique, touching, and actually true
- Teacher Recs: definitely the one I trusted the most
- Counselor Rec: he probably hated doing like 10 of these for me
- Hook (if any): service work in Costa Rica? all I can think of
Location/Person:- State or Country: Upstate New York
- School Type: Suburban Public
- Ethnicity: White
- Gender: Male
- major strength/weakness: I really don't know
- why you think you were accepted/rejected/defered: my school has had a good history with ND
- going to attend? If I can talk my dad into spending over $40 grand
Other Factors:
Everybody keep your head up. I just faced 4 waitlists in a row before gettting this one, so I know how you feel. You will have a great experience wherever you go to school.

Decision: Deferred then Rejected
Stats:
* SAT: 1390/1600
* SAT IIs:
* ACT: 31
* GPA:above 4.0 weighted
* Rank: top 5%
* Other stats: good ecs- lots of community service (won a school scholarship given to one student), VP of NHS, French horn for three years, summer mission trips two years, JETS, state science fair, homeroom rep for community service, etc.
Subjective:
* Essays: I thought it was really good as did my English teacher. It wasn't about an international trip though.
* Teacher Recs: very well written and thoughtful-AP history teacher-included that I got a 5 on that AP test
* Counselor Rec: very good and personal because she's also my tennis coach
* Hook (if any):not sure
Location/Person: Dayton, OH
* State or Country: Dayton, OH
* School Type: Catholic private
* Ethnicity:White
* Gender:Female
* major strength/weakness: difficult course schedule, 3 AP and 2 Honors this year; I have taken all honors possible. A C in Honors Calc on midyear grade report might have hurt (only C I've ever received). No legacy.
* why you think you were accepted/rejected/defered: I don't know, maybe the C or because I didn't make varsity tennis team (it's a very competitive team;they did go to state this year). Maybe they saw that I needed financial aid or no legacy.
Number of Applicants from School: 11 or 12; only two out of nine in so far
*going to attend? Obviously not, but I definitely would have had I been accepted. I'm bummed; ND was my dream school.
I found the rejection letter after getting home from prom at 6:00 AM, so it was a long night (morning to be more accurate). I was wondering if you can call admissions to find out why you weren't accepted because I'm curious. Now I have to figure out where to go- Case Western, U of Michigan, or U of Dayton. I would really like to try transferring to ND after freshman year, so any suggestions would be welcome.
