well let's see...that depends on your dorm. Certain dorms might indulge in certain "initiation" practices. Not to be confused with hazing...they're not. I know of some dorms that like to "lake" their freshman though.

Really, it depends on the dorm. Frosh-O weekend is a lot of fun. Most dorms spend a lot of time making it a great experience for you and your family. Go into it with an open mind and enjoy.

I know of some dorms where late at night they'll round the freshman up on Frosh-O weekend and they'll all go down to St. Joe's Lake and get them in the water...or else they'll all run through the library reflecting pool, or stonehedge. It's not forced on the freshman...

A lot of the events you'll do during Frosh-O are icebreakers...I remember a campus wide scavenger hunt, where we were given a sheet of questions and a disposable camera. We had to decipher the clues, locate where this statue or building or landmark was on-campus; run there; and have someone take a picture of the whole group at the site. It meant you had to interact with your dorm-mates, girls from another dorm, and gave you a chance to get exposure to campus....

Another one was the fact that we had scheduled a "Luau" with a girls dorm for one of the nights. Most of the activities you'll do end up with you being paired with another dorm from the opposite sex....gives you a chance to be making friends.

slow down...you haven't even sent in the deposit yet. Wow! If they still use the same system that they used to you will recieve a packet of information and a form to fill out and send back in to the First Year of Studies. For some programs the classes you will take is dictated by a pretty rigorous schedule. Mostly though it is dependent on what you are going to have via AP credit. This whole process is normally done over the summer.

During Frosh-O weekend you will have to meet with your FYS advisor and your schedule can be "changed" if you have changed intended majors. I was Biochem so my schedule was pretty regimented:

Fall I took:
Chem 125 and it's lab
BIO 156 and it's lab
MATH 125 (calc 1 - its the science, engineer calc, not business major one)
ALHN 195 (Honor's seminar)
PHIL 195 (Honor's Philo)

I had NO choices as far as my classes go. I had to do the Chem, Bio and Math according to the way BIOCHEM is structured. The other two classes were required by the Honor's Program...

I like that honestly.... I honestly regret I wasn't here for all of that. It just isn't nearly as much fun hazing the transfer who comes into the dorm second semester I suppose, lol.

orientation was alot of fun. sometimes it felt like they were always pairing the boys and girls up which could be really awkward. almost everything you do for frosh-o involves another dorm whether it is of the opposite sex (most of the time) or the same sex. guys usually end up doing alot of singing ( usually whenever they see a girls dorm they have to serenade us) and you get like no sleep at all. You are doing activities from like 8 or 9 in the morning till like 2 or 3 at night. Some of the things we did last year include an ice cream social with another girls dorm, a scavenger hunt, a huge dance/blow up fun things night, capture the flag, a bunch of cookouts, a games night where we played blog tag and volleyball, at least 2 or 3 icebreakers before every activity that we did, a board games and movie night, and a bunch of other stuff that i dont remember. you end up meeting a ton of people both in your dorm and out of it but you wont really remember them at all. its alot of fun tho
