Hey guys,

I wanted to know a few things about the ND community.

1.) I hear that people are real nice, but is there like the cliquey atmosphere at ND like many other colleges --i.e.- the really preppy kids, athletes, science geeks-- or do you think dorm life gives you the chance to know everyone and become friends with everyone?

2.) I guess as a varsity athlete in high school, you used to have the daily routine schedule of 3-5:30 sports, get home, homework, then bed... at ND, since im not a varsity athlete, how frequent are intramurals such as soccer, basketball..I hear ND has interhall competetiions and is also perhaps the top college for intramurals, but I guess what are practice and game times for these groups? I hope this does not eat away too much study time like a Varsity sport in high school did.

3.) How frequent are concerts at ND? I was reading on the Princeton Review website and people talked about how U2 and Black Eyed Peas came to ND? Do many famous guestspeakers come to ND every week to deliver a seminar?

4.) Are there student acapella and dance groups at ND?

2.) YES - cliques exist everywhere, so if you were sick of dealing with them in HS, sorry but you will find them at every college. I wouldn't say you have the "geeks" and the "preppy" or "pretty" people segregating themselves from each other. The biggest one you will see right off the bat is the athletes. In general because of practice times, lift schedules, conditioning, and the fact that practice for many of the fall sports begins earlier in the summer - all mean that the athletes are pretty insular amongst their own sports. They'll still hang out with people in dorms and whatnot, but it isn't unusual to see Athletes move from one dorm to another dorm to be roomates with someone else on their team after Freshman year....I'll come back to this later.

Nemo, I think you are correct in that the athletes do stick together, but I think a lot of that is because they spend *so* much time together that they just bond. That being said, my son is friends with a couple of football players from his dorm, and I think because at ND athletes at least start out randomly assigned to dorms, and also because there are no frats, athlete segregation is much less severe than at other schools.

true...there's definitely athlete hour at the Dining Hall though...its very easy to spot as they all end up there after practice.
