| To Those Who Plan to Apply for the Irish Class of 2011
I just wanted to give you guys who were applying to Notre Dame advice:
If you want a good shot at getting in, plan on getting at least a 33 or above. I got in with a 30, simply because I'm a URM for the school.
Asians qualify as URM's at ND, simply because they are a minority there.
Notre Dame does not award MERIT scholarships, and only give out need-based aid.
Looking on the Notre Dame thread on the web site (for admitted students only), the majority of those who were accepted were atheletes. I was a 3 year basketball player and I got in. They seem to really like atheletes and XC's such as those.
Make your essays shine- I took a risk and told the Admission officers of my personal stories of Notre Dame- they had no relevance to the essay, they just expressed my opinions, desires, reasons for wanting to attend.
Just be yourself and shine.
On a last bit: I would have attended Notre Dame if I even received a half-scholarship. ND really is a great school- great community. Out of all the schools I was accepted to, ND was the ONLY school that actually showed a real desire for me to come.
At ND, they just seem to actually care that you want to attend. They don't treat you like a number at any other top 20 college or even publics. ND just seemed to show a genuine interest in my attendance at ND. (I even received several donations from alumni urging me to go, since I stated that monetary problems hindered by possibility of attendance). I've received so many calls from alumni, students, faculty, etc. about Notre Dame and what it has to offer. Even after the deadline (May 1st), they still continued to call me and contact me via email and mail wishing the best for me.
Just my Two cents.

Hahaha nice. In this time of difficulties, we must stick together.
Good luck to you guys. I'm sure you guys'll do fine since Asians are stereotyped as working ridiculously hard for college. Especially if you're Korean, I think. :\

Notre Dame doesn't give any scholarships based upon academics? Are you sure? Bummer.

There are no academic scholarships at Notre Dame; only need-based and athletic.

There are no scholarships, but you get better aid if you are a "Notre Dame Scholar", a designation based on academics. (That's what they say anyway.)

Good luck everyone. Just to be clear, you still have to be a good student and a dedicated person to get in, even as a URM Asian. Dont rely on that to get you in. Im an asian and i got in based on grades, activities and the essay.

Yeah, also, I'm not really sure how much being Asian helps since, although Asians are a small minority (6%), they aren't exactly underrepresented. Actually, they are slightly overrepresented, since Asians account for 4.2% of the United States population as of 2005. Remember, mtrizzle06, ACT scores aren't everything, perhaps you got in on your own merit after all!
Also, if you aren't an athlete, don't worry! I haven't played any sports since 9th grade and I got in. Just make sure that you have strong extracurriculars in some area. Just invest your time in whatever you enjoy- athletic or otherwise!

Notre Dame is VERY good about meeting financial aid requirements in my opinion, especially if you're from Indiana (even though they're a private school, my state kicked in a lot). You'll find that a lot of elite private schools do not offer merit scholarships.
