I am familiar with the jesuit foundation of Santa Clara University and Boston College. My understanding is that ND is not jesuit based. How is it different?

ND is run by the Congregation of Holy Cross, a different teaching Order of priests. Although similar in that they are both based on a faith based education, there are minor differences, most of which are difficult to explain without having experienced them. They are different, but are generally not too different.
