I am a muslim, will a.) ND allow me to apply?, 2.) will people beat me up?

Granted in thissecular world, these questions seems stupid but I am curious.

By apply I mean, will they be unbiased and accept me basedon my stats?

And by beat me up I mean will they make fun of me, etc.

If anything, I'd say being Muslim might help you in the admissions process.

While I think Notre Dame would deny it officially, I really do think there is a Catholic quota that has to be met each year. Regardless of the fairness of such a thing, I still think it exists. That said, I'm inclined to think your being Muslim does hurt your chances in the admissions process, to some degree.

If you do get in, though, I don't think anyone would deride you for your faith. At my Catholic high school, no Protestants/Muslims/Hindus/etc. ever get made fun of for faith reasons. If high schoolers can present that much maturity, I'm sure a college community can.

Personally, I believe that ND wants to attract the best and brightest with religion being further down the list. If your scores and grades are competitive, I don't think that being Muslim will hurt you. You provide the diversity that ND is looking for and needs! I may be wrong on all counts, but I would apply.

Being Muslim would definitely help. Catholic institutions are looking for interfaith dialogue.

I live in a very small, very conservative white christian community that voted almost unanimously for Bush in both elections. However, most of the people I know in this extremely biased community are extremely tolerant and even welcoming to those of Middle Eastern decent. They at least seem to realize there is nothing one can do about one's ethnicity. I think the right college will be even more tolerant. Of course, not everyone will, but that is true no matter who you are.

Kirsten Kelley, you're confusing religion -- which, believe it or not, is a choice -- with ethnicity, which is what you're born into. You're assuming that all Muslims are Middle Eastern, and that's definitely not the case.

Handyandy, you don't go to school here, and you have no idea what you are talking about. Being Muslim will not hurt you chances. Just last Wed. there was an advertised Muslim prayer service put on by student ministries.

Just to be a pain, I'm just going to point out that it should be "a.) .. b.) ..." or "1.) ... 2.) ..." not a mix of the two in the title.

It bothered me.

1. yes
2. no

notre dame has been more than welcome towards multi-cultural and students of other religions, so you don't need to worry about it. take it from a current student.

What I would like to know, what is your attitude towards Catholics. You ask that question in such a way that it appears that you think Catholics are violent bigots. If that is what you really think then, 1. why would you want to go to a Catholic school and 2. how tolerant are you of others yourself?

Yes you can apply. Can't answer on the "will people beat me up" question. It probably wouldn't be much different than your experience with your religion in the general population.

There are a few idiots everywhere, but the VAST majority of people wouldn't assult someone for their religion. I can't see your experience being much different than at any other college, Catholic or not. You might get some verbal assult from some people, but I can't see anyone beating you up. If they do, it's a hate crime, and you should contact the authorities.

Believe it or not, Catholicism and Islam have very few differences with regards to morality. About the only major difference is the whole question of whether Jesus was crucified and resurrected and whether Muhammed pbuh was actually inspired by God.

This is all coming from an agnostic-turned-Catholic high school senior. I attend an all boys Jesuit high school. We're around 85% Catholic and have about 2 Muslims of 1000. I've never heard of anyone attempting to attack them or even harass them for their religion. I can't see why ND would be any different.
