Note: In case my child gets accepted to ND, and is accepted onto a "sports team" (don't want to mention sport...but it is not Football, Basketball or Soccer"...more of an individual sport first then team sport second....how grueling will it be to handle the sport and school work, especially for a freshman? It is an important sport..one that ND excels at....Also, we live on the east coast, so child will be far away from home. We won't be close to lend a hand if the going gets tough.....any thoughts?

Playing a varsity sport for a D1 school is going to be a lot of work, but it's all about time management. If your son can manage his time well, he won't have any problems at all juggling athletics and academics.

It would be good to talk to the coach and some players, if possible. A Division 1 sport at just about any school is going to take a major commitment during the sport's season, and perhaps other times. As Mr. Potter suggests, though, good time managment will keep your son afloat.

Because of the competitive nature of the sport, names are very well known in our state, and I don't want anyone to recognize child.
