| Heycow-
Your plan would work but I am afraid you might miss something with the traffic on I-80 etc. This is a special time with some great memories. I was in the same situation. My kids had started school on the Tuesday before orientation. 3 separate schools. We had that horrible rainstorm and they closed I-80. My husband left on Friday with my daughter to get her moved in and I waited for the others to get home. I ended up taking trains to South Bend with my other three.
We just hauled them to all of the events with their Ipods, gameboys etc. They loved dining at South and North. (all free that weekend!) I know that it is lots of work but I am so glad I was there. When I left, we had a good feeling as to what ND is all about and felt she was in good hands. I don't know if I would have had this feeling if I had missed events.
As for the goodbye, you are not alone. There were plenty that started their crying on Saturday! Once the pep rally ends, the kids have about a half hour to say goodbye to their families as there is an event scheduled for them. (However, I did hear that they are changing some of this around a bit for this year's orientation.) Good luck getting your child ready! |
