| What are my chances?
-Rising Female Senior at a Michigan Catholic School
-We have 7 classes (one of which must be religion) on a semester system.
-Class Rank: 6/115, but I have taken all of the honors classes available at my school and more AP classes than anyone in my class.
-GPA: 4.1 weighted, 3.9 unweighted
-Interested in possibly double-majoring in political science and mathematics.

*At my school, we can only take AP classes our junior and senior years.

-I have received awards at school for citizenship, math, english, chemistry, etc.

-Tennis: 9 (I hurt my back, so I cannot play anymore. The pain has also prevented me from doing many other things.)

I took chemistry sophomore year. I signed up for both honors and AP Chemistry, but since my school is so small, there wasn't enough people for a class, so I had to take regular chemistry. And for the physics, it wouldn't fit in my schedule junior and senior year(which are the only years that I am allowed to take it). Scheduling with honors and AP classes is usually an issue at my school because everything is only offered once a day and we are required to take things like religion, which can sometimes cause a conflict. My school just schdeules things weird too. I think AP Calc and physics are at the same time, which is dumb because it's pretty much going to be the same people. So now if I get into Notre Dame, I'll have to take physics over the summer to major in math, which is kind of lame.

If you major in math, I can't think of any reason why you'd have to take physics over the summer. No majors are constructed in such a way that you can't finish them in four years even if you don't have any AP credit.

Yeah, but don't you have to take physics during high school (or make it up in the summer) in order to be admitted into the college of science?

Or take it freshman year. I've never heard of anyone being forced to take physics at an unorthodox time. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, however.

Kathryn,
I think that you are an excellent applicant. However, I do believe that you need to take physics after you graduate from high school prior to college. When you apply to ND, let them know this as it will be important in their admission decision. Also, I would explain the difficulty you encountered scheduling classes in a smaller school. There is a space on the application for these miscellaneous topics. Congratuations on all of your success thus far!
