Haha I'm going to be a freshman this fall and I kind of wanted to gauge my chances of trying out and walking on. I played a few years of USTA satellite tourneys and I'd love to get back into it...
well i don't really know too much about them... but my friend who was looking at ND was a big tennis player and he said ND got the #1 recruiting class in tennis the year we graduated from high school (2008). So, I think we're probably very talented but I'm sure if you have talent they'd love to see what you've got and maybe see if they can find you a spot.
i also heard from swimming (i know it is different, but I have heard that it happens in all sports), that the coaches really like to have some really intelligent walk-ons who work hard. they may never play, but they can turn into the coaches' right hand man and assistance in team orientated tasks.
