Is it true that if you have a parent who works at Upenn u have a much better chance at being admitted (assuming u are qualified and that the parent working there would be something to bump you over the edge) and if accepted while a parent is working there, is admission free?
the parent's position may help, depending on level...
and tuition remission, according to a variety of sources, is 75%, not 100%, for the children of employees who enroll as undergraduates (it would be 100% for grad students).
the parent who works at penn should be able to consult his/her supervisors to inquire about the precise way tuition remission works in a particular situation.
A kid from my school, whose father is tops in the world at what he does got into Penn. He had no business being accepted otherwise. On top of that, a kid in my school has TWO parents working at Penn, was more qualified than the first kid and didnt get in. hmmm
Tuition remission is 75% from the university, though some departments will kick in the remaining 25%. It varies.
I have known people who did and didn't get in with parents as faculty. In other words, it helps but these days Penn is so hard to get into that it's still not a sure thing.
