What are Penn kids like?

This is kinda random, but I wanted to know what other Penn students are like. When people think of the term ivy league, they think of the stereotypical antisocial nerds or rich, snobby kids.

What are you guys interested in? What do you do? What sports do you play?

I'll start off!! Well I'm African-American female. I am a track and field runner. I loveee to shop and try new foods. I listen mainly to hip hop and r&b. My favorite color is hot pink. For fun, I usually go to the movies, party, or just spend time with my family. I want to study sociology in the college of arts and sciences. I hope to become a pediatrician one day.

If you're preppy, you'll probably fit in.

It's difficult to say because it's a pretty large school. On average- obviously a little nerdy (it's finals week and the library is packed literally every hour of the day and night). People are actually very social, at least the ones you see out of their rooms, but there is also some social awkwardness (that is generally dealt with through heavy drinking). It's definitely a wealthy school. I've had friends visit from other top schools, like WashU, and say people here are willing to spend a lot more money, which is true. I wouldn't say it's particularly snobby though. People are less idealistic than you'd expect of college students and pretty politically apathetic. More conservative than most top universities.

More conservative? I've heard that it's just as liberal as any other ivy. I'm a pretty strong conservative myself.

I don't think so...I mean it's definitely still left of center. And there is a large Jewish population, which is obviously traditionally Democrat. But, especially on fiscal issues, I'd say Penn students are more conservative than those at some other Ivies. It's more of a "keep your hands off my money" free-market conservative than a "let's kill the terrorists and gays" evangelical Christian conservative (hope you like my stereotypes!).
