Hey, I am applying to the Huntsman program ed, and was wondering how competitive it will be since I am applying as a Russian target. I've studied abroad with an elite university program and get straight A's in Russian, as well as earning a prize at my school for that class. Also, how many Russian targets would they be willing to take? So far I have only heard of 2 others that are applying.
Is there a quota for each of the 11 languages? I guess russian is not a popular target language. Am i right? Does it mean that if I am fluent in it, i am in a better position than if i was fluent in german, for example?
There isn't necessarily a quota but I'd say some languages are more competitive than others. French, Spanish and Chinese tend to have the largest classes and are the most competitive. It helps if the language you're targeting is not you're mother tongue (i.e. a white kid applying with Chinese).
I'd say applying with a less common language would be an advantage.
