South Asian/Indian
residency: New Jersey (transfered from MI)
Applying to College of Arts & Sciences (ED)

Family
100K, Parents went to college in India. No siblings.

Grades
UW: 3.67
Freshman year was 3.8 Soph. year 4.0, Junior year: 3.3 (Death in the family-grandfather in India) Colleges dont see the year by year break down of GPA but junior year was a dissapointment.
W: Not Calculated By School
Rank: 27/283 (Top 10%) (End of soph year i was #4. fml...again colleges dont see my soph. rank)

SAT:
1st attempt: W:580 (9 essay) CR: 630 M: 650 [[1860]]
2nd attempt: W: 720 (10 essay) CR: 690 M: 760 [[2170]]

Math I - 770
US His - 720
Lit - 680

AP Exams (all junior year)
Calculus AB - 4

Letters of Rec.
College Professor/PhD Researcher. He let me read it. Its glowingly wondering lol, if they accepted kids solely on recs, i would be in Harvard right now.
Guidance Counselor. Also let me read it. Its just as good as the one above.

Awards
I have 1 fairly prestigious international award
4 Significant national awards
6 Significant state awards
2 scholarships (instrumental violin - 2nd rating at states)
Many regional awards (not including to collges - no space :/ not that they care)

Science:
-Collaborated with Ph.D researcher on a Neural Stem Cell project its really indepth and wonderful.
Performed independent research on genetics and genetic variation.
-Also performed research which focused on the genomic analysis of the brine shrimp Artemia franciscana, and how the genes in this organism compare to other species.
- Selected into many selective science programs.
- 1st place at states in many science competitions. Even went to national competitions.

Sports

College Essay
- 15 yr. experienced ap literature teacher said its one of the best essays she's ever read

I know its long. but what do you guys think? UPenn has around a 30% ED acc. rate....what about me?

i also have 8 months of work experience at Kumon Inc.

will have taken 13 AP's or College Credit courses upon graduation

Senior year courses (the imp. ones haha):

AP BIO
AP CHEM
AP PSYSCHOLOGY
AP COMPUTER SCIENCE A
AP LITERATURE
AP CALC BC

Your extracurricular are amazing, but the GPA and SAt.....

Since Penn is a large school, they will value GPA and SAT more.

I would put you at around 25%

Nice improvement on the sat! That is big! I think your awards + commitment to science will get you in.
