Greetings,

I'm a student who has just finished his junior year and wants to study in the US. I'm studying in an international high school which provides an IB program. In my junior year, I got 2170 in SAT and I've got 5.0 GPA (on a 5.0 scale), and I've an IB predicted score of 43. However, the problem is that I got a freaking GPA in my sophomore year which is 4.28 (on a 5.0 scale, but it equals to 3.45 on a 4.0 scale). Does my GPA in my sophomore year affect my applications to uPenn (I'd like to apply to Wharton), or shall I prevent concerning?

By the way I've got tons of activities from being the president of the school council and our MUN club, editor of the school magazine and I'm participating in many clubs.

Unless your not a native English speaker, a 2170 for an unhooked applicant is tough for Wharton (although it is a great score). As anecdotal evidence, I know 2 people who have gotten into wharton with "bad" freshman/sophomore year but a perfect junior year. So if anything, I think the 2170 may be more damaging than a 3.45 one year.

More importantly, what's your rank? A 3.45 UW at some very competitive schools can still be in the top 10%. I'd say as long as your in the top 10% to stop worrying about GPA and either bump up the SAT or work on your extracurriculars.
