Hi, I am an international student attending a college-prep high school located in Massachusetts.

I have a simple question regarding the early decision admissions process.

I am planning on applying Early Decision to Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. But the school UPenn itself is my favorite, and thus I do not want to diminish any chance of experience by applying Wharton ED.

If I get rejected from Wharton ED, do I have an option to stay as a UPenn CAS ED applicant? or can I only apply to UPenn RD? What happens if I get deferred from Wharton ED?

No, you only get one chance. Either you apply CAS or Wharton. If you are denied, that is final. If you even marginally prefer CAS over Wharton, then you should apply to CAS as your chances are fairly reasonably for the College and are quite bleak for Wharton.

really? that's different from what I thought.

My friend did NYU dental school ED. When he got rejected, NYU send him another email saying, "would you still like to be considered as a NYU ED applicant?"

So, I thought UPenn could be the same case, but it wasn't.

In that case, I wouldn't want to jeopardize my chances and just apply UPenn ED.

Can a CAS student transfer to Wharton?

What I initially wanted was going to Wharton and majoring in a finance-related subject (@Wharton) and Applied Mathematics (@CAS).

Suppose I got into CAS with Applied Mathematics major, is there any way that I can transfer to Wharton and still do what I said? I know CAS students "can take" Wharton classes without being admitted to Wharton, but I have always dreamed of going to Wharton and being a student at the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.

I believe you can get dual degrees, but you have to have a 3.7 GPA your first year

You can also do an internal transfer to Wharton as a rising freshman, rising sophomore (spring semester), or a rising junior. There are a lot of course requirements though and even though they say it's 3.4+ gpa on the website, it's generally a 3.7+ to be competitive.

Strategically applying ED to CAS may be best for your specific case. This is because if you get in you can always transfer into Wharton, while if you get rejected from Wharton ED your chances for Penn freshman admissions are shot and you have to test your luck as an external transfer which is next to impossible for Wharton.

Is it common for a CAS student to transfer to Wharton? or does that only happen to only a handful of super genius kids?

I am a competitive applicant (13 aps, 4.0, 2300, internships, leadership, awards, etc.) But I am never a genius. I am a typical student who tries his best to achieve what he wants.

I heard getting a 3.7 GPA at a college is way harder than it is in high school. Probably I will have to party less and try more my frosh year. :P

I think that is probably what I am going to be doing. CAS ED and try to transfer to Wharton. I mean, UPenn itself is a great college! No reason not to be thrilled to be admitted to CAS!
