Does Penn compare me with other kids at my school?

Hey guys. I have been dreaming about going to UPENN since sophomore year. I consider myself a sort of strong candidate, with 94/100 GPA, 2280 SAT, and a bunch of interns and ECS. Of course I want to ED there, but the problem is that about four or five other kids from my school(private ~120 kids) also want to ED there. Some of them have legacies or varsity sports. I want to know if Penn compares me with other kids applying from my school, and if I should avoid them by applying RD. Thanks.

Your question is basically: is there a quota at my school. My assertion is NO. You'll be judged as an individual as well as your classmates. If your app stands up among the overall ED pool, you'll get accepted. You'll be compared with the entire pool, not just your classmates.

The only reason for Penn or any school to put limits/quotas on any school is to set aside slots for other schools. But Penn doesn't care. Why should it? They aren't trying to protect anyone's feelings.

They could accept all five/six of you this year and zero for the next ten years. If the individuals are great applicants, they'll act accordingly without regard for which school they apply from.

That being said, as soon as you hit "submit" you should know full well that everyones' chances are terrible. So if you get rejected, it won't be because of your classmates, either.

I actually asked this question at an information session an admissions officer held, and she told me that Penn does NOT look at you compared with your classmates, but hollistically, as on a regional level.

HOWEVER, they will look at you compared to the top of/limitations of your school through the school report that your counselor will send them.
