Math 104 or Math 114?

I took Calc BC in high school and got an A one semester and a B the next semester (more laziness and not doing hw than anything). Should I take Math 114 or 104?

114...104 is ridiculous. it's full of smart kids who think they're taking the easy way out and end up being screwed by the curve.

don't you need to get a 5 on the exam to skip to 114?

yes, a 5 is required on the calc bc exam to receive automatic credit for math 104.

Actually, it's not. The math dept gives retroactive credit for 104 if you take 114 and get a grade of C or better.

(See the Mathematics section at http://www.seas.upenn.edu/be/undergrad/curriculum/ap/)

well, i was referring to automatic credit awarded at entry (not after first semester), but yes, this works too.

I wish I had been told about the retroactive credit, otherwise I could have saved myself some time taking 114. Damn it!

On a similar note, I took Multivariable Calc. last year in high school; should I bother taking the placement exam for 114 and move on to a higher-level course (presumably 240)?
