Seeing as how you guys really dont need your essays anymore I just wanted to read some just to get a feel for what the officers might be looking for. I think this is a good idea that will benefit othersw as well. Thanks
this fall, my college essay was stolen and sent to other universities by someone i emailed it to. he told me he wanted to see it just to get a feel for what a good essay looks like. i'm not at all saying that ccfanatic has this intention, but some people might, and i would advise not posting essays in such a public forum...never do anything that could cause someone to call your integrity into question (adcoms do recognize essays)
some people on here might be more inclined to share (or give insight to specific questions rather than give a whole essay), except via pm for the same reasons outlined above
Everyone has different writing styles; you should be focusing on honing your own distinct writing style rather than trying to size up strangers' essays. Most posters (myself included) wouldn't hesitate to help with any specific questions you may have regarding the application essays. Posting real essays on a worldwide public forum---not so much.
kk lol I'm not trying to steal essays here. I'm smarter than that espesically since the risk is not worth the reward. I'm just rying to get an idea of what they are looking for. Any tips would be helpful. I was thinking about topics and I was thinking about writing about how when I was little I would build these pillow forts for fun and stuff. Are they looking for academic oriented topics?
if your pillow-forting can be translated into some greater meaning about your character, then by all means, you should write that essay. if you're trying to use it as a gimmick, then you shouldn't. i don't think they're looking for academically-oriented topics so much as well-written essays. i wrote my pg 217 about searching for ice cream on a hot summer afternoon with a friend. pretty much farthest thing from academic.
It's not so much what you write about, but rather how you write it. The admissions officers are trying to discern if you are a competent writer with a hint of creativity.
