Hi:

I was just wondering if it is a good idea to take Econ 10 if you have both econ credits (for a wharton '12er). If anyone has taken the AP and the course, is it still necessary to take the class (if it makes any difference, i also took it my junior year, so it has been a while)? Also, if not, what courses do current students recommend for someone who wants to study a little bit more about economics, but who also wants to review the basic stuff in the course (a little bit more difficult but with review of the basic material?).

If you have both credits (and did very well in your HS courses, not just "self-study"), you'd probably be fine just skipping them and taking BPUB 250 (intermediate micro) in the spring and FNCE 101 (intermediate macro) the next spring. Both of those courses cover everything you'd need to know, assuming you've had calculus exposure somewhere along the way.

However it could be quite a gap for you if you took them junior year - you won't be touching macro until the second half of your sophomore year. You might do well to take Econ 10 - it will refresh you, it should be (relatively) easier for you, and it's only 1 course. You could always start out in the class and drop it after seeing the syllabus.

There isn't really a good alternative class for you at this point - you'll want bpub 250 and fnce 101 for any following classes. Maybe read a book or keep up with the Fed and WSJ.
