me either. I also have a thought of transfer out next year. But, who knows? we all may be stuck on URochester once we enter the campus.
Anyway, I'm excited to see my future classmates are full of goals and plans! Ph.D...wow!!!!! I can imagine what my new chapter of life is gonna be with all of you. One word "amazing". Ha!Ha! =)
haha, you can def say amazing...i am amazing! lol...nah, i'm not cocky like that...but i do have plans...i'm trying on doin biomedical engineering as my major and then going to UR's med school and a fellowship in cardiology and then joining the Rochester Cardiopulmonary Group lol...weird, i have the next 20 years planned out already...we'll see how much of that comes true...nah, i'm not gonna plan anything, whatever i plan never comes true...so what do u all got planned for the summer?
dayumm....it's over a billion dollars...wait, someone enlighten me on endowment, ppl donate that much money? and then UR gives out as much as it can? or how does that work?
Most schools limit their distributions from endowments to 4-6%/year. Even with annual contributions, interest rates are only 3-4% on investments. The Harvards and Yales with mega-endowments (Harvard was over $ 22 Billion in 2004!!) use sophisticated investment strategies and can afford to give a large number of students a free ride.
P.S. STILL no word on my UR decision! Called this morning and the student working in the admit office said the last batch were mailed out on Friday. Should hear from them today. Will I be the LAST to find out??
Update for anyone else still waiting - nothing in mail again.... Another call to UR... now they say the last batch of decisions left yesterday, 4/3. Uffah, what a system!!!
ivies are stinkin rich xD The whole college deal sounds alot like a monopoly to me ... but then again its not a business (colleges are not-for-profit)...but are they really? just something to think about =P
(Technically, yes they are not-for-profit because all "profit" and revenue go back into the improvement of the school - but sometimes I feel like its just one big business just like everything else in America lol)
4-6%? that's it? what are endowments? don't people donate that money? why can't the school give a higher percentage cause they are getting money back to them anyhow...
schools need money to invest in newer facilities and to advance the school in general. its very hard to balance the budget (i learned from eco class) so give em a break - they're doign their best with what they have.
do u have any idea how much it costs to maintain an institution as diverse and as active a place at URochester? The money coming back is from money they took and invested to grow the endowment, not to give to ppl - or else the endowment would empty out and there'd be nothing for the next incoming class. be reasonable here - the college has to live you know...
tru dat...just that i got 27k in aid out of 45k, and my efc is like 11k. so 7k above the efc is kinda crazy...i asked em about financial aid help but they just called my dad and sent this paper with these loans...i mean seriously, i don't want any more loans. i think I'll give it another try. and mention how the cost is so high and we're supposed to move and all...idk...any ideas?
