Do you HAVE to dorm first year?

Hey,
Do you have to stay on campus if you are a freshman international student? I have an uncle who lives 5 mins from UofR..
Also, if you don't live on campus do you have to pay room and board anyway?
Maybe this is a stupid question with an obvious answer but I want to make sure..I'd like to live with my uncle..

I believe that you do have to live on campus unless you're living with a legal guardian.

Your best bet, though, is to e-mail or call the Office of Residential Life and ask if living with an uncle is good enough.

If you don't live on campus, you don't have to pay room and board, but you do have to buy at least the minimum Commuter Meal Plan.

I may have read somewhere that commuters had to live "X" miles from the campus.

Something to check into.

if you can afford it I'd recommend living on campus your freshman year to get things off to a good start socially, then moving off campus with your uncle your sophomore year...

You have to live on campus your first two years... I think you can get out of it for soph. year not if you live with a 'legal guardian', but strictly with your parents.

Enrolled students may submit a request to be waived from the 2-year housing contract, and Res. Life considers each request on a case-by-case basis.
