Diversity at Rochester?

Perhaps a current student could help me understand what is the diversity at Rochester like.

The URochester web site indicates that racial diversity is quite poor, but I am especially interested in what the geographic diversity is like.

Are most URochester students from NY state or from all around US and maybe international?

While UR seems to draw the majority of its students from the Northeast, I can certainly assure you that there are students from all over. For example, my D is freshman--she's from the Southwest (New Mexico); one of her roommates is from Syracuse and the other from Guangzhou (Canton, China). (LOL! D thought she was going to be the "exotic" roomie!) Her best friend is from rural Alaska, her current 'best guy' is from Maine and her 'best guy' before him was Canadian...

So yeah, there's some geographic diversity... it's not all New Yorkers.

Rnay, roughly 60% of each incoming class is from out of state. As you can imagine, we draw many students from the mid-Atlantic and Northeast, but as WayOutWestMom said, we get students from all over. I recruit in Missouri and we enrolled 12 students from there last year.
