[ *] ECs listed on app: Film/TV Reporter for college newspaper, LGBTIQAA, Student Film Organization, Communication PSU radio.
[ *] Job/Work Experience: Film/TV Reporter (heavily involved)
[ *] Essays (subject and responses): I was pretty straight-forward. I spilled my heart and soul out with my goal and dreams I want to accomplish and how USC can help me change our media society (cheesy, but so real lol). I also mentioned specific professors in the department I want to collaborate with for future graduate studies, and I was very positive with my growth during freshmen year at Penn State)
[ *] Letters of Recommendation: 1 from my Communication professor; he loved me.
[ /list][ b]Other:[ /b]
[ list]
[ *] Other schools applied to:
[ *] Comments: All I can say is "wow." I'm so shocked, honored, and gratified I was accepted into this prestige university to study Communication. In high school, I was the average student (3.4 gpa, 1800 SAT), and I never thought I can go to schools like USC, UCLA, or UCB. I worked hard freshmen year and proved myself I can do well in school, proved all the doubters wrong, and I finally got in. It just feels good for hard work to pay off. Good luck, guys! Thanks for all the help during this long journey.

Accepted - Viterbi/Chemical Engineering

Stats:
  • College transferring from: LA district colleges + PCC
  • Entering as: Sophomore?
  • GPA: not sure since i attended more than 5 colleges but my major GPA is pretty high
  • Units completed: 90+ (switched majors 2x)
  • Units in progress: 17 (completed Spring Semester)
  • Pre-reqs completed: All of the Calculus, Differential Equations, All Physics, General Chemistry
  • GEs completed: All except the ones that must be taken at USC
Subjective:
  • ECs listed on app: VP of a few clubs
  • Job/Work Experience: a lot of retail jobs, private tutor
  • Essays (subject and responses): did the essays myself (don't pay someone to do your essay or look over it because honestly 2nd opinions are overrated sometimes and you should already have the knowledge to write a decent essay if your going to transfer to USC) my essays/supplemental questions def weren't "standard" and generic, and took about two weeks~one month to think, reflect, and write
  • Letters of Recommendation: none because i felt my grades/essays reflected myself well enough that i didn't need someone to validate for me, although i did have a chance to get letters of rec from some well connected professors that worked within USC but i didn't bother asking since we were both busy
Other:
  • Other schools applied to: none
  • Comments: full time student taking about 18+ units (always with a core math, physics, science course, GE class, and engineering course) commuting to 3 diff colleges every semester & worked. overall, work hard and study hard. i only applied to USC because that was the only college that I felt compatible with. And my decision changed in the 2nd week of May on USConnect and I submitted my common app on the last day of the deadline, sent my transcripts about three weeks after i submitted my common app.

Spring Grade Request 5/10
Accepted 6/12 - DORNSIFE/INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS

Stats:

College transferring from: Saddleback University/Penn State
Entering as: Junior
GPA: 3.35-3.50 depending on what transferred
Units completed: 72
Units in progress: 6 (summer)
Pre-reqs completed: All but math
GEs completed: Eng 1A and 1B, Acct 1A and 1B, Micro and Macro econ.

Subjective:

ECs listed on app: None

Job/Work Experience:

Nine years in the United States Marine Corps.

Essays: Talked about leading Marines both in and out of combat. Explained the necessity of a strong educational background to grow as a leader.

Letters of Recommendation: I had a whopping five letters of recommendation. Accounting professors both 1A and 1B, my English 1B professor, my Intro to Oceanography professor and my Biology professor. All of them were pretty awesome and none of them were generic

Other:

Other schools applied to: Pepperdine (Accepted), Chapman (Accepted), Whittier (Accepted), UC Irvine (Accepted), Santa Clara University (Accepted), UC Berkley (Rejected), and of course USC (Accepted and will be attending)

Comments: I was a crappy high school student. I had a 2.0 and honestly had no intention of going to college. I joined the Marine Corps and about 6 years into my service started going to college part time. I had a rough first year (2.7GPA). Well after I got off my !@% Ive been able to maintain a 4.0 for my last 40 credits, bringing up my GPA to a 3.45ish. I got into every school I applied except one. So what I'm trying to tell you all is don't doubt yourselves. Put in the work and anything is possible, I am living proof. Good luck all.
