To the people who already attend USC...
How much really does it cost to go to USC?
Including housing provided by USC and tuition
and books?
Thanks

I had one graduate last year and one will start this coming year so I was just working out a rough estimate. This is not counting scholarships or loans.

Estimated USC costs for 4 years:
    Tuition~ $140,000
    Fees~ $3,000
Housing- (obviously variable based on your choice- here's what we did)-
    Yr 1-dorm- $4800
    Yr 2-frat- $2700
    Yr 3-frat- $3800
    Yr 4-house-$8100
    Food (estimate!) ~$10,000
    Books/school supplies~ $3000

This adds up to about $175,000.

Of course there are extra expenses that vary per individual like:
Transportation- depends on whether you have a car or not.
    Parking (and parking tickets- ugh!)
    Fraternity
    Personal- This can REALLY vary

    Here's USC's estimate of costs:

    Here's a list of fees:

My Gosh, I'm sorry for bumping this thread, but this was really helpful. Can you give any idea about the total money for 2011-12?

The entire thing at USC costs as much as NYU's Tuition. O.o

    LeDoniv,

You are interested in cinema. I do not know if there are extra costs involved in that particular major. The original post here is from 2007. Unfortunately, private college costs in urban areas of the U.S. are high.

These costs are from each website for the 2011-2012 year. The comparison will be between USC and NYU.

    Costs of Attendance

NYU does not include transportation in their estimate. Since you are international I will omit that from both. Included will be tuition, room and board, books and estimated personal expenses.

    NYU Costs $58,867 Estimate

    USC Costs $56,640 Estimate

If you have relatives living in either city and you could live with them it would cut your costs dramatically. The difference is in room and board. NYU estimate is $15,181 and SC is $12,078.

So it's been over 4 YEARS since I wrote post #2 above. 2nd son just graduated from USC so I will update my list.

(THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE SCHOLARSHIPS OR LOANS)
Estimated USC costs for 4 years:
    Tuition AND Fees~ $160,000
Housing- (obviously variable based on your choice- here's what we did)-
    Yr 1-dorm- $5000
    Yr 2-apt (2/room)- $10,000
Yr 3-frat (Rent portion only)- $6000
    Yr 4-house (1/room)-$11,000
    Food (estimate!) ~$15,000
    Books/school supplies~ $3000

    This adds up to $210,000.

You can see that apartments and houses can be very expensive compared to dorms and fraternity housing. That is one easy way to cut costs if you need to do so.

Extra expenses are a huge variable. Other expenses such as car/transportation, Fraternity/Sorority, and personal expenses can add anywhere from $10,000 to $50,000 or more. (I'm not going to tell you what we spent but I am VERY glad all of my children are off my payroll now!)

I'm also in Cinema (Interactive), and I can tell you that there are a good number of lab fees associated with SCA classes.

And I'm an international student, which means the university forces me to pay full sticker price, and I can also tell you that I paid about $52,000 to USC this past year, not including cost of books and living expenses.

^Would you recommend the Cinema Programs? What kind of hidden fees do you encounter?

I'm thinking of attending one, but I don't know to decide between Tish and USC SCA...

@Georgia Girl, The costs between the two aren't drastically different, yet it is considerable. But I've been hearing a lot of good things about Tisch, so I might still have NYU has a first priority. And, no, I don't have relatives, I'll go for Hayden maybe... Or one of the better Non-AC halls.
