If you applied to Marshall

can you get rejected from it but still get accepted to the CAS?

Yes. Your application is first evaluated for general admittance to CLAS. If you are accepted by CLAS, then your application is evaluated by Marshall for acceptance.

I added this to the USC FAQ, as I think it's something that more people will probably ask, although I'm not a USC student. CC411 is though. :P

The following contradicts with the consensus on this thread:

Quote:
All students who are admissible to USC and who indicate business or accounting as their first choice major will be directly admitted to the Marshall School of Business as a freshman.
http://www.marshall.usc.edu/undergra...s-freshman.htm

It looks as though if you get into USC, you automatically get into Marshall. You can't get into USC and not get into Marshall. Can someone please clarify?

I think that statement is a clarification to how admittance used to be for Marshall. For a period of time around 2002, freshman could not be admitted directly into Marshall unless they were accepted to a special business honors program*. Other students who wanted to get into Marshall would have to fulfill certain requirements then apply at the end of their sophomore year.

So, this statement is saying freshman students can be admitted directly to Marshall. It does not mean that if you get into USC, you are automatically admitted to Marshall. Marshall requirements are different than general admittance requirements and Marshall applicants are evaluated after they have been admitted for general admittance to CLAS.

(*I know this because this was the case for my S1. He was invited, as a freshman, into the Marshall Honors Program in 2002 and was able to be admitted directly into Marshall and begin taking business classes. Many of his friends were disappointed by this exculsion because they had to fulfill certain requirements, maintain certain grades, and apply later. I think they had so many complaints- that's why they changed this system.)

I just called admissions to be absolutely sure that this has not changed. The answer I just got confirmed this: an applicant can designate Business as a first choice major, Undeclared as a second choice major and be rejected by Marshall but accepted by CLAS.

So Marshall's requirements are higher than that of CLAS's right?
