The Business stuff is rosinyangster's field, not mine.
Indicating your major will not hurt your chances at all. Rather, it might help your chances, especially if you've got a strong background in business and cinematic arts.
However, indicating that you're 'undeclared' does not hurt either. Many RHP students this year are 'undeclared'. There's no discernible advantage, I think, to having a pre-decided major. It's rather expected that you will change your major during your time at college. The staff of RHP will help you when that time comes.

Thank you so much poirotsfriend for coming back to this thread to let us know how you're doing in RHP. That's so helpful!
My daughter is a hs junior and is considering applying. Are there any other current RHP students who could come to this thread and post a brief "here's how it turned out for me" type of post?

Certainly. I wish your daughter the best of luck.
I'll ask around tomorrow--I can think of two or three people who might avail themselves to the service of this thread.

Hi! Ive read this entire thread and thought it was cool how it tracked the stages of applying and acceptance of rhp hopefuls.
Im a junior in the IB program and am debating on whether to apply or not. I do live in florida and the classes I take are not exactly a breeze. Im currently doing well (straight As) and I feel if I decide to do RHP, then i might be giving up chances for other scholarships and schools.
However, USC is a great school , and I really wouldnt mind spending my senior year in a prestigious university.
I did initially have my sights set on Duke, and I was wondering if the benefits of RHP outweigh the cons of losing a senior year.
Any help is appreciated, Thanks!

I have a few small questions about the application. Did you type up your RHP application separately or did you just write on the papers they tell you to print? I'm having trouble fitting all I want to say in those few lines. Also, did you have to send separate transcripts to the RHP and Undergrad Admissions Offices, or did one suffice? If so, which office did you send it to? Thanks!

I was in RHP 2005. It's a very good program. Personally, I did it because I wasn't enjoying high school. I already knew what I wanted to do-- Computer Engineering & Computer Science-- and my high school didn't offer anything beyond CompSci AP, which wasn't sufficiently challenging to me. I don't remember much about the specifics of the application process; good luck with that But if you're in a similar situation as I was-- or you're interested in computers or technology, as I am-- feel free to contact me.

Can you enter the B.F.A. theatre track from RHP?

If you're applying to RHP and to a major that has its own admissions procedures (such as SCA or Viterbi), you have to apply to both RHP and the major separately. So for the BFA, you would have to meet all of those application requirements as well as filling out the separate application for RHP. Then, if you are accepted both to the BFA and to RHP, you would attend USC in the BFA program through RHP. Sometimes students are accepted by RHP but not by the major they've applied to, and they have the option of attending USC as RHP students in Letters and Science (which includes a lot of majors that don't have separate applications) with a different major. I don't know about the BFA, but for some majors, it is possible for students who aren't accepted into the major as first semester freshmen to try again once they're at USC in L&S.

LouieC: Straight A's is wonderful, but how are your extracurriculars and SATs and stuff? Because getting into RHP depends, I believe, on more than just grades. I think that sentence is actually an understatement.
As to worrying about forfeiting chances at 'better' universities than USC...well, in your position, I'd just send in an application and see the response. I think once you know their offer in terms of how much scholarship money you'll get etc. it'll be an easier decision. After all, EVEN if they give you an offer you can't refuse...you can always say 'no'. So keep that in mind.
icy.jennie.jenje: I didn't type Part I of the application, I managed to make it all fit. I can't say the same for the questionnaire I filled out once I knew I had got in. (I was so excited that I spent a full half hour filling THAT out!) Type it or write it, as you see fit. The important thing is the content.
peggysue: To add to Nester's thorough and (from what I can tell) quite correct information, I'll say that my friend (an RHP student in my year) did apply for a Music Performance major through Thornton, didn't get in, but now that he's here he's re-applying again this coming semester. I imagine such also is possible with Drama.

Oh, and as to transcripts--I sent it to RHP. I actually might have sent it to both. But the important one is RHP.

Okay thanks for all the help! Also about recommendations- my counselor just wants to send both the USC rec and the RHP nomination in the same envelope the RHP offices. Is this okay or does she have to do it separately?

Ultimately, follow the instructions on the RHP application if it states otherwise, but I'd go ahead and send it together in her place. No reason not to, that I can think of.

Hint: If you apply both to RHP and to a major that requires a separate application, if you hear that you are accepted to RHP first, call up the admissions people for the major and be sure they know that you have been accepted by the university. RHP will be super-helpful in fixing things if the major doesn't have your university (e.g. RHP) acceptance in your file. But until this is fixed, there can be a problem because if your intended major doesn't know that the university has accepted you, the major won't accept you.
