he's a smart guy. has many prestigious awards. but really terrible at the whole teaching thing. pretty much only interested in his research. i heard and read things about him but decided to ignore it and think that i'd be able to do well. big mistake. he's old and needs to retire. his accent made it difficult to understand him and made his lectures even more boring. he just goes through each slide, speaking in a monotone with no emotion. first week or so we pointed at each individual element on the periodic table and talked about it in extra depth. pretty much you'll have to self-study, which sucks even for kids who like or are good at chem. he's no good at helping either. instead, his students went to the other teacher for help. i don't know how potter is but parr is really good (but i guess parr must not be teaching this semester).

You can change anytime until the add/drop period is over (end of 3rd week of class), just log onto the web registration.

After 9/11/09 you can only drop.

War Chant: if you drop after a certain time, will you receive a "W" or the like on your transcript? If so, does the "W" adversely affect, say, graduate school admissions?

For fall, if you drop between 9/11 and 11/13, you receive a W.

From what I've read, 1 or 2 Ws shouldn't really have an effect but then again I'm not on the admissions staff.

For those of you who have taken 105a before with Parr, is the class usually generously curved at the end? I've done pretty well on the first 2 exams but I really think I bombed todays so just wondering if you guys could give any input. Thanks.

When I took it last year, 87-88% overall was an A- in both 105a and b. It depends on the average though, I heard your first test was really easy and everyone got As. That right there makes the overall curve at the end smaller.
