University of Southern California Admission Reception

I got an e-mail from the Viterbi School of Engineering to attend this program.

I REALLY want to go and it sounds perfect, but it would be extremely hard for me to attend.

He is also happy to answer any questions you may have including how to combine your engineering degree with minors in business, engineering technology commercialization, international relations, cinema, music or any of the 100+ minor programs at the university. The program is informal and will last approximately two hours.

What does that mean?

How much of a benefit would I receive from attending?

I went to one of those Viterbi Receptions last year. It started with the campus tour then followed by a sit down meeting with a Viterbi undergrad advisor and a current Viterbi student in RTH. Since the advisors also work as the admission officers in spring, a lot of questions were asked about the admission processing. If you haven't been to USC or have questions to ask then it definitely worth it.

This isn't at USC but in my city.

The purpose of these Admission Recptions is to attract more applicants. So, if you already decide to apply and have no question to ask then we probably won't gain much. But, a lot of people asked admission questions and got their answers from the admission officers directly.

If "Paul" is the USC admissions officer assigned to your region, or if he is connected with admission to Viterbi, then he's the guy who will be reading your application and potentially arguing for your admission with the USC undergraduate or Viterbi admissions committee. And it would not be surprising if he had some input into who is invited to be interviewed for Trustee and Presidential scholarships that will be given through Viterbi. If you were my kid, I would urge you to attend.

I agree... attend if you can and introduce yourself in person to the USC rep. USC always does a great job at their receptions- you may learn a lot.
