Essay Length

I have been working on my essay and it is about was 2,000 words and after I have now cut it down to 1,100 words. USC says about 500- 700 words, but I read in a pamphlet that was sent to me it says "We are not overly concerned about the length, but please be reasonable". I feel like taking anything else out of my essay would lessen the quality of it.

Is 1,100 words okay? If not, what would be a "reasonable" number? I don't want to overwhelm the readers but I think that it is a compelling essay...

Thanks!

1,100 is a lot more than 500-700... Have you asked your English teacher to read it and suggest some cuts? Excellent editing might make it even more compelling.
